Meet the Board of Trustees of New Thought Vermont


Peter Miller

MA, CAS, D.D. (Hon.), Board Member

Peter Miller is the cofounder of New Thought Vermont, and was cofounder and leader of the Unity of the Light Church in Loveland, Colorado. He has been a frequent speaker in those states and elsewhere. Peter was also the founding director of SoulStar, a spiritual development organization in Yarmouth, Massachusetts.

He pursued training at the Unity Institute in Missouri and further studies through the Divine Science School based in Washington, DC. He was ordained as a Divine Science minister in 2007, subsequently completing a post-graduate Certificate of Advanced Study through the Graduate Theology and Pastoral Ministry Program at Saint Michael’s College, Vermont. He served as Board Secretary for the Divine Science Federation International and chaired two biennial conferences.

Peter continues his life-long love of music and the arts. He retired in 2016 as the orchestra director and fine arts supervisor for the Rutland (Vermont) Public Schools. Shortly thereafter, he initiated the Castleton University String Orchestra, and continues in that role in addition to teaching violin, viola and string education classes. He believes that through creative discovery, shared expression, and mindful connection, we can support each other in personal growth and evolving community. In addition to formalized meditation/mindfulness/consciousness practice, he enjoys finding the wonder of the present moment in each circumstance.

William Charles Freeman

Ph.D., BC-DMT, Board Member

William Charles Freeman is an ordained minister and a certified Spiritual Director. He also received a Masters of Arts degree and Certificate of Advanced Specialization from the Graduate Theology and Pastoral Ministry Program at Saint Michael’s College, Vermont. He is co-founder of New Thought Vermont and Past President of Divine Science Federation International.

William provides pastoral care, spiritual counseling and spiritual direction. He also designs, develops and coordinates spiritual development and community educational outreach programs including retreats, seminars and workshops, and directs organizational planning. He holds a Master of Arts degree in Movement Therapy from Goddard College and a Ph.D. in Movement Therapy and Expressive Arts in Education from The Union Institute.

Rev. Susan C. Church

UCC Minister, Board Member

Reverend Susan C. Church is a minister ordained by the United Church of Christ. She serves UCC churches in East Braintree, VT and Roxbury, VT. Sue also serves as a hospice chaplain with Visiting Nurse and Hospice of Vermont and New Hampshire. She is a graduate of The University of Vermont and Andover Newton Theological School.

She is a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She is an avid reader and a music lover. She experiences that which is sacred in many aspects of her life, especially in her work with hospice patients and their families.
